How much are ballroom dance lessons

Thread starter dancefromtheheart Start date May 31, I discovered ballroom dancing six years ago and I absoultely love it but I have been unable to pursue my passion due to the costs of dancing lessons. Why must dance lessons cost as much as it would cost to see your doctor? Hi dancefromtheheart. This is a super popular topic, here in DF. I'll try to find some older threads that can help you get a foundation.

Again, welcome. Here's an oldie but goodie thread that I remembered the title of. It's on topic. Not sure it's the best thread out there, but it's a place to start. If I didn't have to log out and go harass my kid, I'd find more. Welcome to DF dancefromtheheart!

There are already topics on this, but I will throw this tidbit out. The cost of lessons around here is comparable on a by the minute price to a professional massage, and less than a plumber.

Griffico Member. Click to expand I'll look for some more older threads tomorrow, when I'm lucid. I did a whole post like this on my blog, not just explaining where the costs from from by breaking down my fees dollar for dollar.

While I teach primarily in-home lessons I believe it will still answer your questions. Griffico said:. In many cases the prices are quite justified based on this alone. I can't speak to big chain studios though As you say, ballroom dancing lessons are quite expensive, but I know our local dance studio offers the first lesson free to try it out.

If we really enjoy it then I think it will be worth the investment. The prices you have described here are about what I remember back when I was taking classes. It can definitely add up quickly when you want to do competitions or do medals. I think people can really gain a lot from taking many group classes first and perhaps once a month get a private lesson if they want to accelerate their progress and sort out any problems they may be having with basic technique.

I think the cost and the time is worth it if you want to make dancing a regular part of your life and your social life is changing as a result of enjoying dancing so much! My daughter is getting married next year, and she and her fiance are thinking of taking ballroom dance lessons for the reception.

Thank you for all the information on how much they cost, I think I might be able to get him to a group class or two!

Hey Janelle congrats on your daughters wedding! I watch lots of dancing competitions. Now I can say I know a thing or two about what is involved financially before I decide to take a ball room dance lesson. I hope to try it out one day because of the health benefits.

Table Of Contents. Group Ballroom Dancing Lessons 2. Private Ballroom Dance Lessons 3. After a few weeks he was frustrated with his progress and decided he wanted to improve faster and to really understand the technique. So he signed up for private lessons. He now comes once a week for his private lesson in addition to his group classes… Needless to say he has now improved 3X compared to some student who had been taking only group classes for the past year. For this particular student being a better dancer was worth the cost.

Another great example are wedding couples. Wedding couples usually do at least 5 private dance lessons to prepare for their first dance. They have a concrete goal they are working toward and learning how to dance for their wedding in 2 months time is a priority for them. They need fast progress and they need customized lessons.

For them private lessons are not expensive at all. To give you a personal example, currently Kim and I are competing in the professional International dancesport competitions. Because dancing is so important to us, we are willing to travel 4 hours each way to New York in order to have lessons with our coaches. To us spending most of our money and time on dance lessons is not expensive. Improving our dancing is worth the cost and time. This may be more of an extreme case since we are professional, but there are amature dancers who spend even more than us simply because they value Ballroom dancing that much.

Dancing is generally viewed by people as something that is nice to do if you have tons of discretionary cash lying around. My point is that not spending money on dancing has nothing to do with it being too expensive. It has everything to do with your priorities! You choose to spend your money on what is more important to you.

So now ask yourself, how important is dancing to you? What can learning to dance add to your life? Benefits like: — Staying in shape — De-Stress — Gaining confidence in social situations — Keeping your mind sharp — Moving to music — Connecting with your partner — Freedom of expression.
