Kunkka - Torrent. Duration : 1. Lifestealer - Infest. Pressing F9 on the keyboard will pause the game and all players will be frozen in place while the issues are sorted out. It's advised that players leave the command assigned to this key to avoid accidental pauses. Players can pause Dota 2 at any point during the match. There are a few rules to pausing the game which are covered below. However, pausing Dota 2 is not a very common thing in most games and the most frequent reason to pause Dota 2 is in the case of disconnects.
When someone disconnects from a match and it's most likely due to reasons outside of the player quitting themselves, pausing the game is a good idea so they can rejoin. Pausing would also mean the team isn't left playing 4v5 until that person has returned. Players on both teams can press the F9 key to extend the paused time if needed allowing them to wait out whatever the problem is if they wish. This can be especially useful when someone has a problem in real life that stops them from playing the game.
With Dota 2 it's difficult to go AFK since the game will give an abandon for not gaining XP for over a 5-minute period. This means that when something happens, players do need to pause the game or risk losing a lot of points to their behavior score. Sadly, this means if someone keeps unpausing the game then there's not much anyone can do other than report them at the end of the game. A player who abandons the game will have their gold taken and distributed to the rest of the team along with their passive gold gain.
It's possible to 'cheat' the system if they stand near a tower to keep grinding XP. In this case, a player on the opposing team might offer to sit until they return and do the same thing by waiting near a tower to allow the game to be played 4v4 for a time. This isn't a requirement and most players aren't willing to do this very often as it could get them reported too.
What are the rules for Pausing There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to pausing Dota 2. For PvE games, when it's unpaused there's no countdown and it starts again immediately. The other team kept unpausing it and we proceeded to keep pausing it because we knew he was going to come back.
After he came back, the other team chain paused to get back at us, doubling the amount of time paused for what should have been a minute break. If it's a legitimate reason the team will vote yes, and if it's a troll they'll probably vote no. Good to see there not overall assholes out there. Originally posted by Spr09 View Post. He's the hero this community deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt his identity, because he can take it, because he's not our hero. He's a silent buffer, a watchful nerfer. An IceFrog. My Speedtest Result. My main point is more toward those who chain-pause with nothing else in mind but to make the game last longer as a trade for losing. And no, you cannot do anything if the opposite team decides to chain-pause.
It's a guaranteed 5 minutes lost, and after 5 minutes, they can pause again for 5 minutes, and so on. With a game lasting, say, 45 minutes of gameplay, the opposite team could literally pause for minutes without any problem, and more importantly, without any chance for the opposite team to do anything about it.
That brings the total game time to 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 15 minutes. Also, I ask you: why give a 5 minutes timer to disconnects if you can, in fact, pause the game for 9 minutes in addition to that 5 minutes timer?
Give 14 minutes to those who disconnect then, not 5 minutes. If you don't care about waiting 14 minutes for those who disconnect well, that's you.
But I think I'm not the only one here who's pissed about it. And those who will pay for that game later on most certainly will too. You guys know there is a "Report for intentional ability abuse", and you can even write a small note? I find that the current pause mechanics are fine.
They are only abused by spoilt kids and rude unsportsmanlike people. For people who are gentlemen and civil, this is no issue at all. Well, no this will not work, because pausing while waiting for a disconnected player is not considered abuse. And that is where the very problem lies. I don't know if you've read the first posts of this thread, but I've offered some solutions in my second post which would prevent such abusive behaviors without ruining the pause system.

Ever since moving to the beta I noticed this was a serious annoyance, and it should NOT be allowed. I have a feeling Valve offered this functionality to maximize even playing power between teams if one person was unable to play for any period of time during the game.
It's not every one else's obligation to wait for that person who disconnected, individual people should never have that much power over the pause function because no two individuals are the same.
Strip the damned pause function - or at least severly reduce its capabilities. Yes No. OK Cancel.
