Karen H. The play portrays a character named Macbeth who commences as a loyal and honorable hero of Scotland. However, Macbeth 's character changes gradually during the play. An inevitable, uncontrollable and powerful ambition for sovereignty forced him into making sinister decisions that only created despair, guilt, and madness.

An event that transformed Macbeth for the worst and there was no way for him in going back to being moral was that he betrayed Duncan the former king.

Although Lady Macbeth and the witches manipulate and pressure him, Macbeth is ultimately the true villain of the play because of the depth and breadth of the suffering he causes to so many innocents. Firstly, Macbeth is the real villain because he instigates the murder of King Duncan. How Macduff ends up being the only one that is able to kill Macbeth.

And how everything of the prophecy of the witches came true. But the overall theme of this story is obsession with power. And even his wife Lady Macbeth died throughout the story.
